Audition Information

Through the choir program at Pinnacle High School students are given many opportunities to audition.  Students are encouraged to audition for as many of these learning opportunities as possible.  You may use these auditions for an ‘A’ project.

All-State Show Choir – a choir of approximately 44 students chosen among 500 auditionees from all over the state.  It requires live singing and dancing auditions.  If selected the student learns and memorizes the performance songs before attending the three day long festival where they learn the choreography.  The Festival takes place the last weekend of January.  Parents are invited to the final performance.

All-State Jazz Choir – a choir of 20 students chosen among auditionees from all over the state.  The audition is performed live.  If selected the student memorizes the music before attending the three day long festival held the last weekend of January.  Parents are invited to the final performance.

School Musical – each year the Drama Department sponsors a musical production.  The auditions consist of singing, dancing, and doing cold readings from the script.  Lead roles often go to Juniors and Seniors, but there are usually many minor roles and chorus parts that Freshmen and Sophomores can fill.  Taking drama classes and getting to know Mr. Laks (the Drama teacher) can increase your chances of success.

Regional Festival Choir – a choir of 100 people, from the West Region.  Live auditions consist of singing a prepared solo and sight-singing.  These auditions are held in January.
Those chosen take part in a two-day festival in March.  Parents are invited to the final performance.

Solo & Ensemble – these auditions take place at the same time and place as the Regional Choir auditions. Students sing their prepared solo and are given a rating.  Medals may be purchased for those receiving Superior, Excellent, or Good ratings.  Students may also
Combine with others to form ensembles that can sing for ratings.  More than any other event, this one builds confidence and poise in the students.

P.O.S.S.E.  Summer Study Scholarship Auditions – Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior choir students are encouraged to audition for these scholarships designed to encourage private voice study or music camp attendance during the summer.  Some of the auditionees are featured on the Honors Concert in March.  Application requirements include an essay and an accompanist fee.

Choir Auditions – for next year take place in March.  Students sing a song and sight read to determine placement.
